Rocky’s art practice could be seen as a fusion of the photographer, the filmmaker, and the writer. His work is multifaceted, deeply emotional, and continually based on concretizing the living.

Rocky has won multiple awards for his ciné-roman installations including CENTER Santa Fe: 2023 Social Award, CENTER Santa Fe: 2019 Excellence in Multimedia Award, SFMOMA: 2019 SECA Award Nominee, and PDN: 1st Place, 2007 New Talent Category.

His work is in the permanent collections of Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) and the Tweed Museum of Art.

Rocky’s project is so giving in ways that reward the audience. For many viewers there’s a visceral response to the scale, brilliance, warmth, and composition of the images. It’s a sensory exchange and one that’s often rooted in thoughtful recollections of family, home, love, and loss. Many leave and only to return to the gallery days later to do so, and often with others in tow.
